EM Quant® Chlorine Test Paper, Catalog No. 17923/1
1. Method
Chlorine oxidizes an organic compound to form a violet dye. The chlorine concentration is
measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the test paper
with the fields of a color scale.
2. Measuring Range
| Measuring Range/Color Scale Graduation |
| 25-50-100-200-500mg/l Cl2 |
3. Applications
Sample Material:
Bleaching solutions
Disinfectant solutions
Rinsing solutions
4. Influence of Foreign Substances
The concentrations
of foreign substances given in the table lie below the limit at which
the color comparison is made more difficult:

5. Reagents and Auxiliaries
Please note the warnings on the packaging materials!
The analytical test strips are stable at least up to the date stated on the pack when
stored at +2 to +8°C and protected from moisture. |
Package Contents:
One bag containing 3 rolls of test paper (approximately 1200 determinations). Each roll is 4 meters.
Other Reagents:
Dichloroisocyanuric acid sodium salt dihydrate GR for analysis, Cat. No. 1.10888.0100 (Merck KGaA,
Darmstadt, Germany)
6. Preparation
Samples containing more than 500mg/l Cl2 must be diluted with distilled
water.
7. Procedure
- Immerse the of the analytical test paper in the measurement solution for
approximately 2 seconds.
- Shake off excess liquid from the test paper.
- After approximately 10 seconds, determine with which color field on the label
the color of the test paper coincides most exactly.
- Read off the corresponding result in mg/l Cl2. If an exact color match
cannot be achieved, estimate an intermediate value.
Notes on the Measurement:
- The color of the test paper may continue to change after the specified reaction time
has elapsed. This must not be considered in the measurement.
- If the color of the test paper is equal to or more intense than the darkest color on
the scale, repeat the measurement using fresh, diluted samples until a value of less
than 500mg/l Cl2 is obtained.
- This must then be multiplied by the corresponding dilution factor.
8. Method Control
To check analytical test papers and procedure:
Dissolve 1.85g of dichloroisocyanuric acid sodium salt dihydrate in distilled water, make up
to 1000ml with distilled water, and mix. Content: approximately 1000mg/l free chlorine.
(The exact chlorine content can be determined titrimetrically according to EN ISO 7393-3.)
Dilute this standard solution to 200mg/l Cl2 and analyze as described in section 7.
9. Note:
Reclose the bag containing the test paper immediately after use.
